Ayurveda: Origin, Healing, and Wellness

The Science

Ayurveda is an ancient Indian medical system. It is based on the concept of the balance of three “doshas” in the body. The Ayurveda Treatment is a healing and wellness science that offers a range of traditional therapies and organic medicines to impart mental and physical wellness.

Origin

The Ayurveda Treatment is said to have evolved from Lord Brahma’s consciousness, who then passed it on to his son, Daksha Prajapati, who in turn imparted his wisdom to the Ashwini Kumaras. Ultimately, it was Indra, the king of Gods, who enlightened humanity with this revolutionary medical wisdom.

Ayurvedic Science gained popularity in the Vedic times. Its origin can be traced back to 1500 BC from Vedic scriptures such as Atharvaveda and Rigveda.  However, it was not until 500 BC that Ayurveda started to gain popularity in India with Sushruta Samhita and Charaka Samhita being written around this time.

Philosophy

Ayurveda is not just a system of medicine that treats diseases, it is a lifestyle based on various guiding philosophies and principles. The unique concepts of Ayurveda are – the Tridoshas, The Prakruthi, and the Dhatus. Ayurveda treatment aims to cure not just the disease but also the soul.

The Tridoshas are – Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. The Vata dosha is responsible for all dynamic activities in your body, the Pitta dosha controls metabolism, and the Kapha dosha provides structure to your body. The balance of all three doshas is considered healthy, and its imbalance gives rise to diseases.

The Pakruthi of every human being is centered on these 3 doshas. It is categorised as Vata Prakruthi, Kapha Prakruthi, and Pitta Prakruthi.

The Dhatus in our bodies are the 7 structural components namely – Rasa (plasma), Mamsa (muscle tissue), Asthi (bone tissue), Shukra (reproductive substances), Rakta (red blood cells), Medas (fat tissue), and Majja (bone marrow).
